Sponsor a school and Theme for the month

February could be Crestwood school month, which also happens to be National Dental Month. We as a club could buy and distribute to the crestwood children new tooth brushes, tooth paste and other dental supplies and maybe John Wright could do a talk about brushing your teeth, etc...We may also be able to bring them a healthy snack for that day and help serve it, such as apples and milk. Then you have direct service from club members, education and prizes that actually mean something.

National Holiday theme

the early childhood field, we have a theme/National holiday for just about every month. In November it is Teddy bear month. We could do the same thing, designate one school, take them all a new teddy bears and have Robin Gordon or someone from the hospital come and talk about taking care of teddy bears and theirselves. Example, washing hands (after sneezing, coughing, eating) putting bandaids on scratches (they could put one on their teddy bears), etc...then end the day with a children's favorite book "A Teddy Bear Picnic" and take them teddy grahm cookies for snack. Then again you get the interaction from members of Kiwanis, the children get a new teddy bear and special snack and some education in a fun way.

Volunteer at a School

I talked to Sue Hendrix who is the Head Start teacher at Chrisman and she put me into contact with the Family Service Worker, Teresa, who explained that the biggest need they would like to have is volunteers. People who will come in and read books, possibly provide a food experience for the children during the parent meeting that is held monthly. The food experience could be something like bring ingredients for the kids to make a healthy snack, like chex mix or pretty much anything.

Provide Extra Clothing and Supplies for Schools

I spoke with Jan Poynter at the Willis Center Tuesday. She had several ideas for us. She said they could always use an extra pair of hands in the class room, filed trip help, helping with activities and also reading to them.
She said that they are involved with shop-cop and brotherhood. They are always in need of extra clothing to have at school in case of accidents. Clothes, underwear socks, etc..
They are having Santa come at Christmas and giving out T-shirts. She suggested that would could help with that and maybe provide books for the kids along with the T-shirts.

Supporting Imagination Library

Today we presented a check for $150 to the Imagination Library in support for their literacy for 5 and under. This falls right into the sweet spot for Major Emphasis and we will be following up on this yearly!

Good project, helps 600+ kids a year and is really, really easy!
